The Learning Experience Platform, also known by the acronym LXP or LEP, is one of the tools used in digital training. While this type of platform is similar to LMS tools to some extent, there are nevertheless major differences between the two concepts.
In fact, despite the merits of training, learners sometimes have little motivation to follow them. By offering them a better browsing experience, Learning Experience Platforms or LXPs encourage learners to invest in their training.
The link between LMS and LXP
It is difficult to talk about the concept of LXP or LEP without addressing that of LMS. But what is the real link that exists between these two inseparable notions?
The LMS tool
It is no longer a secret that new forms of learning, in this case digital ones, require the use of certain very specific tools. One of the most important is the LMS, the Learning Management System.
The role of this tool is to ensure the management of training. More concretely, it mainly helps in the creation of training, the management of programs as well as learners, the storage of information and its dissemination.
In clearer terms, the LMS tool is at the heart of online training, whether it is e-learning or blended learning. When it comes to LMS, the central element of online training is the organization.
The Learning Experience Platform
Unlike LMS, LXP does not put a particular emphasis on the organizational aspect of training. Here, the most important element is nothing other than the “user experience”. The goal of this type of platform is to offer end users a training experience that meets both their uses and their needs.
Overall, the common point between the Learning Management System and the Learning Experience Platform is undoubtedly digital training. Even though the LEP or LXP appeared after the LMS, this does not mean that it is superior to it.
The important thing to remember is that these two tools have different goals for the same topic.
What is the use of these platforms?
In reality, training, no matter how important it may be, would be useless if the learners who have to follow it are not interested in it. This is the problem that LEPs aim to solve by offering a better user experience to users.
Indeed, when the tools used by learners during their training are in line with their needs, they are more inclined to devote themselves to the training. The level of engagement therefore increases according to the satisfaction they feel in using these tools in question.
This is why most LEPs offer features aimed at generating learner engagement and motivation.
Features
There are a multitude of Learning experience Platform models. The features vary from one platform to another. In all cases, each of the features offered aims to facilitate the training process for learners.
Some of the most common features include:
- An interface optimized for an excellent user experience (UX: User eXperience);
- An interface that is intuitive, pleasant, and responsive;
- The ability to customize the display based on personal preferences or AI suggestions;
- The possibility of having access to a plurality of content: micro-learning, podcasts, articles, videos, blogs, etc.;
- The insertion of social data attributing authority to users (opinions, shares, notes, comments, etc.);
- The learner’s ability to choose content;
- Connection to a Learning Record System (LRS), to record all tool usage data.
To make digital training an opportunity for learners to strengthen their skills, certain tools are essential. The LXP is one of these, just like the LMS.
